Last July my boyfriend and I decided to take a day trip out of Oxford, like, who could blame us?
I'd been looking to fill the Disney shaped hole in my heart that I've been missing since I came back from Florida & that was when I discovered that you could visit the actual Hundred Acre Wood based in Hartfield.
We arrived to Hartfield, ready for an afternoon of exploring at around 1:30. We decided to visit the Pooh Corner Cafe at the bottom of the forest first for a pot of tea before we went crazy hiking. If anyone is planning on going I'd recommend dropping in before you get to the wood as they have maps of the forest with all things Pooh marked on, so you don't miss anything!
We parked up at Gills Lap and walked down from there, in my opinion, this is the best place to park as the reward at the end of a fairly long walk is Pooh Bridge, however, please bear (pardon the pun) in mind, as we did not, walking down a hill also leads to walking back up a hill. After a very long day.
The first thing that we found was The Enchanted Place, which holds a memorial plaque to AA Milne and E.H Shepard, there are little concrete seats in this area (which is featured in the Goodbye Christopher Robin film) it has the most lovely view, it's nice to see some green areas in this which aren't planned to be demolished #TeamGreenBelt .
The next finding came quite a bit later on, I'm not entirely sure if this was trespassing as it wasn't featured on the map... but, we found Eeyore's house! it was slightly hidden away, we followed the sign for Horses to the left of the track, it's fair to say our curiosity (nosiness) got the better of, and ta-dah there it was!
After getting back on the track, which was very downhill at this point, we could see ourselves getting closer to Pooh Bridge, this is when we had to keep our eyes peeled as houses are not included on the map! I was scatting around like a little inspector, looking high and low when I noticed the smallest door up in a tree... Owl's house.
Just past here we found Pooh Bridge where we played a best 2 out of 3 game of Pooh Sticks, I won't tell you who won, but I can shamefully say, it wasn't me. Over the other side of the bridge was what appeared to be the remains of Winnie The Pooh's house, there's no longer a door on it, but the memory still lives on as people still leave pots of honey and such.
It was one of the best day dates of alllllll time, and definitely the work out that I didn't ask for!! If you can, go and check it out, it's every Disney lovers dream!!
